Subtle Resistance Release and Everyday Energy Disruptions
The research mentioned in the previous post re: mind-body and energy reactivity led me to looking at what impedes the flow of energy through our systems. The nature of the meridians and chakras–their anatomy and physiology–demonstrates quite clearly how subtle resistance in the form of muscle tension, mental stress and unresolved emotional issues or mistaken beliefs impacts the healthy distribution and function of energy.
The muscle tension that is common in all of us due to a variety of causes constricts the flow of energy. This type of subtle resistance constricts our energy and contributes to low energy states, negative emotional and intellectual states and ill health. They set up a negative feedback loop creating more of the same. Dr. Bruce Lipton puts it succinctly when he states that when we are in either a protective mode or a growth mode. A growth mode is relaxed and open…one of abundant, free flowing energy that produces a state of inner ease. A protective mode has us tense, tight and irritable….closed down.
The good news is with some awareness to our everyday physical sensations, our mental states and emotional tone we can know how our energy is flowing. Out of this same awareness we can choose to use simple interventions to shift our energy to a more health and life enhancing state.
Subtle Resistance Release Requires Active Intervention
Our habitual patterns will not reverse themselves. We developed our patterns for a reason and until we intervene to change them they will dutifully continue on their assigned task of “keeping us safe”.
We need to actively intervene for subtle resistance release and its effects on our energy and nervous system to be effective. Once we have even a beginning with subtle resistance release, we benefit from the increased energy physically and psychologically. That boost in energy can motivate us to keep practicing until we have a new pattern installed and even more energy becomes available to us.
Approaches for Subtle Resistance Release
There are many approaches that can help. One of my favorites is the technique included in Relaxation 101. It is a relaxing guided meditation that gently re-educates mind and body to release tension and increase energy flow that results in inner ease, peace and happiness. The pleasant 21 minute experience helps to build resiliency in the nervous system. The peace-filled internal state created during the meditation gradually carries over into daily life and expands mindfulness that results in healthier choices.
Affirmations can be a helpful touchstone to remind you to release resistance that naturally accumulates throughout the day. With affirmations it is important to tap into feelings of the positive and be aware of tag lines that need to be erased.
Here are three that can help:
Centering and grounding into your body as you say these statements will make them real at a cellular level. This is what is necessary for affirmations to have an effect.
Today I will notice the subtle ways I resist and say “No” to life. I can practice saying (feeling)”Yes“.
Today I will notice how the inner resistance I hold constricts my energy and feelings and contributes to negative thought loops. I can choose to release it and open to ease. Using a simple connection with intention and breath can helps with this.
Today I can practice softening and opening to a more spacious feeling in my mind and body, not fighting or resisting what is. I can practice simply be in the moment free of fear and worry.
