Expanding Consciousness: Areas of Challenge
One way that has been useful for me to expand my awareness of what needs to be released is to notice the things in my day that trigger fear, willfulness or insistence on one way of doing things. It has also been helpful to observe where I may feel (or assign) blame, or feel shame, fear or embarrassment.
Questions that can help jumpstart expanding consciousness
How do you really feel about your body?
Do you accept it as is or are you always hoping or wishing for a different weight or a different shape?
How about relationships? What challenging or difficult relationships do you engage in regularly? Is there someone in your family or perhaps at work that always seems to “push your buttons?”
Are you comfortable with your Self? Do you genuinely love and truly accept yourself just as you are or do you try to be someone you’re not? This area is an ongoing process and you need to give yourself credit for any steps you make headed in the direction of self acceptance and love.
How about your financial situation? Do you accept it as is and move forward from there or do you blame yourself or others for where you are? This keeps you stuck in the past without the energy to seek solutions and embrace your power to change things.
Refining Expansion of Consciousness
Notice how you feel about each situation. Notice if you collapse into feelings of overwhelm or even anger, feeling as if “life is being done TO you”, or as if things will never change. I have found that confronting triggering situations and the resultant feelings to be empowering and freeing. Once I was willing to do it the old feelings dissolved and new energy became available to create something new.
Acceptance is setting judgment aside and acknowledging “what is”. It is about letting go of resistance so you become flexible and open to different ideas, situations and people. Acceptance can be a surprising door to change …one that you walk through more effortlessly than when you were locked up in resistance.
Whatever area you choose to begin with, you will become aware of how you resist life in obvious and subtle ways. You will become aware of where you may be causing yourself physical, emotional and/or spiritual pain. Initially this is challenging, but ultimately the expansion in consciousness that results provides you with a wonderful sense of inner ease and spaciousness , a broader/deeper awareness re: opportunity, and a greater feeling of self mastery and resiliency.
