How things are Versus how we wish them to be…the distance between these two equals the amount of stress we feel.We do not have to like what is but we do not need to keep up an ongoing inner debate or resistant thought/feeling stream about it.
I first learned this several decades ago and yet keep forgetting it! It takes a commitment to our peace and well-being to remember the concept and interrupt the all too human tendency to have an inner conflict raging on about reality that we have no control over. Sometimes I thank my brain for sharing and remind it that I have received the message that I don’t like “this”. Then several deep breaths with the words, Relax, Relax, Relax, repeated on an exhale brings me back to a quieter place inside.
