Resistance is normal…human even. If we had no resistance to anything we would be in big trouble! Resistance can save us from danger. However this protective mechanism is often overworked keeping us stuck in patterns and places we do not want to be!
Our energy field offers us clues about our resistance as well as ways out of it.
We contact our world through the energy field. It is invisible but nevertheless active and responsive to what is happening. Our conscious mind might try to sell us on a story about what is going on but energy gives us the truth of things if we would only pay attention.
Energy expands and flows freely when we encounter people, places or things that are positive, life enhancing, supportive and nourishing. We feel good.
Energy contracts in the face of stress, distasteful or difficult experiences ( or people), negativity and fear. This causes discomfort initially. Ultimately it can cause physical and/or emotional pain. Energy contraction if left unchecked contributes to “blocks” in our systems. These blocks over time give rise to mental, emotional and physical pain and breakdown of health.
For all intent and purpose energetic contractions is the process of resistance.
It is possible to encounter negative circumstances or pain and remain open (expanded). This allows the energy of the triggered feeling(energy) to flow through and be released. The stronger your field and the more in touch with it that you are the easier this will be. Skill building and practicing with small things will build your energetic “muscles” so they will be strong and effective for larger issues when they arise.
Resistance, Prevention and Skill Building
There are many things we can do on a preventative scale to help us cope with difficulties and minimize our habitual reaction to contract. Things that maintain our physical health and contribute to a healthy nervous system as well as increase our confidence to manage tough situations all help: proper diet, sleep, exercise routines, counseling, shadow work all fall in this category.
Meditation and breath work are bridge techniques. They help on a preventative level. They create, strengthen and recondition inner pathways that help us to navigate choppy waters. These inner technologies also help us open to higher consciousness. The awareness that emerges from higher consciousness contributes to a more expansive field.
Techniques that can help in the moment when we are experiencing negativity of some kind are: EFT, NLP, and Interactive Guided Imagery and hypnosis.
Learning to let go of resistance, allowing energy to flow to completion and being open to deeper meaning are skills requiring willingness, practice, and courage.
Let Go of Resistance to Grief
A simple method you can use to release grief is to locate and massage a grief point. There are two grief points that are easy to use. One is located in the center of the chest in the same area as the heart chakra; the other is located about three inches in from the shoulder and below the collarbone. Each person is different so these points are general. Keep poking around until you find a tender spot as you think about your grief. Once you find the tender spot either massage it or hold firm pressure on it. Breathe deeply and expand around the discomfort/pain. The mind will want to narrow down and focus on the ouch. Your mind may want to get involved describing, complaining or analyzing. The more you can mentally go to neutral, simply stay in the moment and allow the emotion to be there without resistance–using the breath to create expansion the quicker the feeling will melt away.
Sometimes all we need to do is allow energy to run its course. Other times there is deeper meaning, knowledge or awareness that can only become available after releasing pain. Seeking deeper meaning from the usual level of mind, especially when there is pain or discomfort, does nothing to unleash wisdom!
As you practice being present to yourself without fear, deeper and deeper layers of embodiment and spiritual unfolding emerge…the gift in the present!
